Between the Woods and Frozen Lake

"The Darkest Evening of the Year..."

One of the first poems I memorized was Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." I can still recite it (but will spare you that). One of the remarkable things about that poem is how gentle and benign Frost makes the frozen woods seem!

"The only other sound's the sweep,
Of easy wind and downy flake."

Doesn't that sound lovely? Soft and kind and comforting? Yeah? Well here's the reality:

Killer Icicles of Death!!

Frozen, frozen, frozen, everywhere I look.

I don't know if it's the cold or just the winter blahs, but I haven't been able to commit to any project.

I did a few cables...

Started, but didn't finish, a yip-yip...(head-butt courtesy Edgar)

...and finally, finally, figured out a simple brioche stitch!

I had a good piece of 2-color going, but the edges were a mess. This is the simplest of the brioche.

In other news, a kitty had to go to the vet, so of course the doggie had to escort us.

Can't we go yet?!

How are you all doing? Winter got you down, or knitting/crocheting up a storm?

  1. Knitting up a storm here. It took four tries to knit a cowl yesterday, but I did it. We'll see if the young ones likes it before I pronounce it good.

  2. I'm really ready for the snow and the ice and the cold to be over. It's great knitting weather, but it's really making me a bit crazy and restless. It's hard to focus on anything when the weather is this uncooperative.

  3. We haven't had very cold weather so far. But you never know. There is still February. However, I am happy that it hasn't been such a hard and long winter like last year.

  4. Love your colors in the piece with the cables. All set for watching the Super Bowl, so I can ignore the weather for now.

  5. I totally agree that I'm ready for this winter weather to move along. Too cold for me! Though your frozen pictures are really lovely!
I understand switching between projects all the time- same here!

  6. Brrrrrr, it just looks too cold!! I can't commit to a project right now either, I can't even blame the weather. Sigh. Stay warm and keep knitting!

  7. It is cold and snowy here, too. I generally like winter -- and knitting in winter is awesome -- but I'm not so keen on temps lower than -20 F.
