Every pair of socks I knit sooner or later, usually sooner, develops a hole or bare patch.
This was expensive sock yarn, too.
Most of my socks turn out very loose (dunno why, I'm a tense knitter), so maybe this time it was the friction against the back of my shoes.
Usually the hole falls in the ball of the foot, or bottom of heel.
Ugh.
So frustrating. I love hand knit socks.
I did start the baby blanket I switched to, after realizing the dress wouldn't work with the yarn and pattern.
Leaf Lace Blanket from 60 Quick Baby Knits.
It's meant for Cascade yarn, but I'd already purchased Paton's Classic Wool DK Superwash. Color is Wisteria.
I will have to buy more, but I'll worry about that later. The baby (a co-worker's first) is not due till March, after all.
The pattern is so simple--odd rounds 1-7 and 9-15 are the same. So just two different lines to memorize. I hope this flies off the needles, but -- well, I know better. My knitting luck has been rotten lately.
In other news, the weather has improved. It was 27 this morning when I walked the dog, and it felt like Spring. We're expecting icy rain overnight. Booo.
Oh, were you trying to do something here? Am I in the way?
You might want to go down a needle to make the fabric more dense. Or use reinforcing thread. Lovely yarn.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny when the 20's feel like a heat wave? Happens to me all of the time.
ReplyDeleteMy knitting luck has been pretty rotten recently too... but my reading and writing has been even worse.
I miss reading you... so sorry about the holes, but you brought a smile to my face this evening. :-)
Same here...I was freezing in the morning when it was 11 degrees..later when it was 18, it felt so much warmer! So sorry about the holes int he socks...
ReplyDeleteMaybe try reinforcing the heels? I know how frustrating it can be. Unfortunately, holes come with making socks. I just fixed a pair this week too.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened to me the last time I knit myself a pair of slippers. Spun my own yarn, knit them up and they were so warm and they both got a hole in the bottom the first week. Funny thing is, I knit slippers for the rest of my family all the time and they easily last a year or more.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could knit socks. I am a little afraid to try. Is there a way you can fix them?
ReplyDeleteYes, they can be darned, if the hole isn't too big and the surrounding yarn is in good shape.
DeleteI get so frustrated when my socks get holes in them too. Darming is such a pain. I agree with you when expensive yarn is used...it hurts all the more. The beginnings of the dress looks beautiful.
