One WIP Down, Four to Go!

Voila! A finished scarf. Chili Peppers Polworth by Misty Mountain Farms, spun on a Kromski by me. Pattern is the Undulating Scarf from Summer 2010 Spin Off magazine. This might be a Christmas gift for someone, or it might be for me. It's very soft, but not really my color. And I have a half-million scarves.

Progress on the very not-like-the-photo socks I'm making from "Socks a la Carte." The leg pattern is wicker, on page 38. My wicker looks nothing like their "Wicker" ... I think I am doing the RT and LT incorrectly. If anyone can help me with this, I'd be happy! I also seem to have a problem with ptbl ... I can't manage it no matter how I try. Any advice?

These will be for me, as they are made specifically for my cankles.
And finally, more lovely alpaca ... Suri alpaca Sugar Breeze Brown, from Wonder Why Alpaca Farm.  Sam Adams included for scale (yeah, right, the heat index is 103 and my a/c is set on an environmentally-friendly 83 ... I'm drinkin' that bad boy).

Now off to do my homework ... I'm a perpetual student here and if I'm diligent, I'll have a B.A. in English Literature by the end of the year.

Update: Maybe not at the end of the year. The class I was going to take in September is no longer available. Darn it all! Throws off my whole schedule.

  1. It has taken me ALL THESE POSTS to figure out what the heck a WIP is! hahaha I get it now. Lovely scarf :) I'll show off the skirt I'm doing when it gets far enough to look like "anything" - but you weren't kidding about working with cotton: it grabs something fierce!

  2. I love the scarf color! Super cute. I would think about starting up some sort of yarn work if it wasn't so unbelievably hot here.

  3. Tillie: You didn't remember WIP? Shame on you! :-)
Cotton is okay, some of the new brands are lovely, but I just find it a little inflexible. Post a picture before you're too far along, that way we can admire it in all stages!

Nikki: Believe me, that scarf was nowhere near my lap while I knitted. I rolled it up or moved it next to me. Just having it near me was too much!

  4. Greta scarf!
It you search for RT and LT and ptbl on youtube, I think you'll find some videos that acan help you. Sometimes it's better to see how it's done than having someone explaining ;)

  5. Again, I love the colors and the Sam Adams looks good too.

  6. Gorgeous scarf! I think the socks look fantastic, even if they don't look like the ones in the book. Also, I think there was a ptbl tutorial in Ravelry's newsletter a few months back.

  7. I found the tutorial, Laura ... thanks! It was just as I figured it, only I couldn't do it as part of an LT. I had to take the skipped stitch off the needle entirely to ptbl of the 2nd stitch. I didn't figure that out before (duh).

  8. This cotton grabs constantly and I have to remember to keep a very loose hand while working with it or I end up struggling for every stitch! I'll try to get a pic soon, but it is slow going at the moment - you've seen me work, by time it's done, she'll have outgrown it :-\

I would love to hear from you!
