Daisy Mittens, by String Theory!
Notice how the top is narrowing ... I have so much trouble with tension! It's not blocked yet, I'm just now decreasing the top. Still have to pick out the waste yarn for the thumb gusset (on a scale of one to five, how much do you hate picking out waste yarn?)
I am steadily burning up my pile of acrylic, in an epic Cat Mat Destash ...
These are shiny because of a shiny purple acrylic yarn combined with the other colors. I think I can make maybe one more mat, and then I'm down to the novelty yarn that wouldn't withstand kitties. Don't know what I'll do with that stuff.
I have some lovely finished objects, but that's for Friday. Ta ta for now!
Thanks for the nice padded and warmed boxes on the sheltered porch ... we prefer to sleep on your car roof in a cold wet mist, though.
Don't forget to stop by Tamis Amis for Work-in-Progress Wednesday!
Very cute mittens, I think they are looking wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI find the best way to do colour-work is to always adjust the yarn carried on the back after knitting the first stitch in the new colour, I almost over-exaggerate the loop at the back, if you can understand what I mean?

On a scale of 1 to 5? Probably a 4. I've got better at it lately though - smoother unsplitty yarns and good contrast in the waste yarn colour.
ReplyDeleteMy cat loves novelty yarn - especially the fuzzy, ribbon, glittery stuff. Are you sure the rest of your acrylic wouldn't withstand cats?
Nice mitten pattern!
I'm afraid it wouldn't withstand washing ... a lot of it is handwash :(
DeleteNice mittens. I haven't dare try mittens yet, but soon!
ReplyDeleteThey're easy, but you could always start with fingerless gloves!
DeleteI love the colorwork, it is very, very pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of your kitties and I think your mitten is very pretty. The nice thing about small projects is that if you have to frog, it's not that big a deal. I have been knitting mittens myself and ended up knitting three mittens for the first pair to get it right. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your first mitts didn't work out. These new Daisy Mitts are lovely. I hope they continue to knit nicely!!!
ReplyDeleteIt will be a beautiful pair of mittens.
ReplyDeleteI remember I struggled with to tight knitting too, but it gets better the more you do it :)
The mitten looks super. Can't help with the tension I am afraid, mine is all over the place with colourwork. Blocking solves a lot of issues though :)
ReplyDeleteThe picture reminds me of a Husky I had ages ago. My Dad was so concerned with his comfort in the winter, that he bought hay and put it in Kieran's dog house. The dog drug out all the hay and slept on it outside the dog house. I tried to tell Dad, he loves the cold, but he wouldn't believe me. LOL
ReplyDeleteI guess we underestimate how warm their fur actually is!
DeleteThose mittens are super cute.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, those outdoor kitties are probably warmer than you think... they'll grow a thicker fur since they're not spoiled in the house. Also the black top of the car is a heat sink, and most-likely quite warm... even on a cloudy day.
Also the rag top is probably softer and more comfortable than the hardtops. ;-)
