Have You Seen My Stash?

I thought that the end of the Tour de Fleece would be an appropriate time to show my stash. Clockwise from the very top: Merino, merino, merino, merino, BFL, and alpaca, alpaca, alpaca. The green/blue and brown ball are Wonder Why.

I seem to have a merino problem.

Well, I suppose as long as I don't run out, it's not a problem.

Here are some bits and pieces, the odd stuff I started off spinning. One day I'll make a really weird lap blanket or wrap with all this.

My last posting was about spinning cable yarns. I really enjoyed doing this -- now I want to do it with everything. I'm considering cable plying these two colors ... what do you think? Too much? I want it to be two very different colors.

In other news, I've become a beading addict.

Purple beads on green Meriboo.

I got the idea from Dutch Hollow Acres
and Wind Rose Fiber Studio.

In true Spinster Beth fashion, though, I went overboard:

There's a bead about every 12".

The only addition I made to the tutorial was to use a crochet hook to reach through the needle threader.

I'm spinning right from the beaded fiber tufts, one after the other, joining them up end to end.

I leave you with two stacked cats. Saves space, you know.

  1. Holy Paca Poo! You've been a busy lady! I love the beaded yarn and I think you will be super happy with the frequent placement of the beads. I had a bead failure after last year's TdF Challenge day so...I am going to try again after we are done and I have more time.

  2. Just to clear up any confusion, this is not from Tour de Fleece ... I just needed to inventory what I had, and thought I'd make it a blog post!

  4. Thanks for letting us know you didn't get all that spun during this TdF. I was feeling envious!
I also enjoyed the beading challenge from Dutch Hollow. Your beaded yarn looks lovely. I think my beads might be a little to far apart. Only time will tell.

    Happy Fiber Arts Friday!!

  6. I love the pictures of your cats! Your beaded yarn is fantastic! And not overboard. Beading is addictive. And as for your stash...yes you need Merino/Alpaca Anonymous. I will see you there. :)

  7. I'll look forward to seeing what becomes of the beaded yarn of awesomeness.

And I think a blanket would be very cool from that pile!

  8. You always make me laugh... stacked cats. I'm still giggling. :-D

I have a similar plan to make a fabulous blanket with all of my leftovers.

Frankly, I don't think too much merino (or alpaca for that matter) is a problem. I love working with merino... You do know it's the SmartWool, right?

  9. Wow that bead yarn looks so pretty! I didn't have enough confidence to try it during TDF. I do want to try it soon. I love your blog, and had to laugh about your cats, even the older post about the wine cork..:) Thanks for giving me a big smile!

  10. I love your stash picture. I agree with Kathryn, how could too much merino or alpaca be a problem ;-)

I think that the two colors for your cable plied yarn are wonderful...but you know how I feel about orange! :)

  12. Love your beaded yarn-I tried it too and like it a lot-I like your idea of just joining the tufts end to end-I'll have to try that.

  14. Wow, that's a big cat! I'm impressed by your beading abilities and envious of your patience in doing it. Can't wait to see how that every-12-inches beaded yarn knits up. Do you have a project in mind for it?

  15. Kathryn Ray ... I've never heard of SmartWool!
AllyB: The cat was tiny until she got fixed! She just swelled up afterwards. She was so runty I had to hand feed her when she was a kitten.

The beaded yarn isn't difficult, but the Meriboo I used was really slippery, and I think that helped. I didn't ever have to tug or yank to get the bead on it.

I'm not sure what I'll do with it, but since it's singles, it will be something that I won't wear too hard. I'll have to wait and see how much of it I come up with. I have a lot of the Meriboo left.

    Thanks for visiting, everyone!

Our van (well my boyfriend's parents that we're looking after for them) has indeed made it twice around on it's speedo :)
